Imagine.

“Disgusting!”

“Oh my God!”

“I will kill you!”

Assault.

Torture.

Murder.

Tegucigalpa has one of the highest murder rates…not just in Honduras…but in the entire world. Roxsana Hernandez was just trying to survive.  You see, there is a Trans genocide going on in our world and Tegucigalpa is one of it’s epicenters. I don’t know what the final straw was that made Roxsana flee…but I do know that it must have been very intense to have made her embark on very dangerous journey…with perhaps even more risks…to get to the United States.  Perhaps Roxsana knew the obvious…she didn’t have any other options.

Desolate area met desolate area as she journeyed north.  The longer the journey the more obvious it became that Roxsana was Trans. Danger met danger with every encounter.  Everybody stayed away out of fear of what could happen to them. Loneliness birthed greater loneliness.  Tears often met her cheeks.  Through it all, she somehow maintained her grip on hope.  Death was the only other option.  The further north she got the more she realized that she could actually make it. Grinding.  She pressed on.

Roxsana thought things would get better.  They didn’t.  Undeterred, she pressed toward her promised land…the land of freedom…the United States of America.  The border towns were rough.  She didn’t want to stay long.  She just wanted to get over that border.  Eventually, she did.  The result was not what she was expecting.  Instead of being welcomed, she was arrested.  Due to her gender, she was treated like an animal.  Slurs filled the air. Disgust recycled repeatedly. Bodies didn’t matter. Nothing mattered.  There was nothing she could do.  Fighting back would be suicide.  Time made things worse.  Beating after beating took a toll on her body…until the day came.  There would be no asylum for Roxsana Hernandez. This was the end.
