Today is the first Sunday after the acquittal of Officer Jeronimo Yanez. Nearing a year ago, Yanez murdered Philando Castile during a traffic stop. The entire incident was streamed live. The video seems clear. When police officers are involved, nothing is ever clear. How many pastors have mentioned anything about police brutality? How many have they spoken their names? I suspect very few. Chicken shit pastors rule the roost. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait on pastors to do something. Jesus showed us how to be disruptive. In the midst of injustice, God is found in shutting it down. We are responsible for making sure that not another service goes by without the names of those we are slaughtering in the streets being loudly proclaimed. Interruption in the midst of accommodation is a holy act. For those who would criticize such tactics, let us remind them that there can be no worship without justice. In this hour of deep hate, nothing should be normal. We are sinking into a moral abyss. If we are to be saved, disruption is our only hope. So…until churches begin to act like churches…don’t let them worship in peace.
