The Death of Truth

Throughout the last few months, numerous leaders in our country have made wild claims that have been proven to have no grounding in reality. There is also the proliferation of fake news that has motivated numerous people to do a variety of things. All around us untruths are taken as fact. Those who challenge these claims are considered dangerous enemies worthy of violent reprisals. Take the case of Edgar Welch. After reading a fake news story claiming that Hillary Clinton was running a child molestation ring out of a Washington, D.C. pizza restaurant named Comet Ping Pong, Welch traveled from North Carolina to D.C. to investigate with an assault rifle and ended up firing a shot inside the restaurant. Even though restaurant owners repeatedly repudiated the fake news story, Welch clung to the fake news. This phenomenon is taking place all over our society. Truth is dead.

Untruths cannot go unchallenged. There is great danger in our current state. In a world of shifting shadows, the resurrection of truth begins with demanding the truth. We are the resistance. We cannot continue to be imprisoned by twisted words and concepts. In the words of John 8:32, may we “…know the truth, and allow the truth to set us free.”

Amen.
