As Kris and I walked through the high school parking lot late Sunday afternoon we found a quarter, and then another, and then we got to chatting about our habit. For years Kris and I have walked daily, and we developed a habit of keeping our eyes down enough to spot coins. We often walk so the sun, if a coin is on the ground, will reveal its presence.
We estimate we find about 30-40 dollars a year. This year was a banner year because Kris found three 20 dollar bills rolled up one day, and our all-time favorite is the time we (almost simultaneously) spotted a bill on the ground coming out of a professional sports stadium … I bent over picked it up, and stuffed it in my pocket because it was so crowded. I said to Kris, “I think it was a ten dollar bill.” Kris said, “I think it was more than that.”
So I pulled it out and, sure enough, a 100 dollar bill.
But the ordinary finds are pennies and dimes, an occasional nickel, sometimes a quarter. But bills come our way about once every year or two.
How about you? Do you keep your head down?
