We were away when Jimmy Carter’s oft-repeated idea about women and the Southern Baptists was recirculated in the media: he’s evidently withdrawn from the Southern Baptist Convention over its tightened up restrictions on women and his perception that it has diminished equality of the sexes. A friend sent this to me … and I think it might come from Jay Leno. Anyway … TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s!!  First, we survived being born to mothers who  took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing,  tuna from a can and didn’t get tested for diabetes. Here is a letter from a reader and I’m wondering what you think? As an Anabaptist, I’m aware of this issue from a variety of angles, not the least of which is that violence and God’s kingdom are at odds. There are a lot of issues involved here, and one of them is that many Christians don’t even think about this sort of question. But what do you think? Dr. McKnight, I wanted to know your opinion on something. For... Read more

Andy Stanley contends there is one question that, if we ask it each time we make a decision, it will bring clarity to the important questions and problems and dilemmas in your life. Asking and answering this question could have helped you avoid your biggest regret ever. “You and I have something in common,” Andy states. “We’ve both done some really dumb stuff.” We’ve not planned to mess things up but — this is a wise one — we’ve also... Read more

O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Read more

These are random notes from one student in one class of one professor (:mic) AND IT’S NOT MY CLASS OR NOTES FROM MY CLASS … and it’s hilarious. Taken from the 8:30 AM Bible and Religion 111: Biblical Literature and History class, completely out of context and in no particular order: “God, Jesus, Bible–all banned.” “The iPhones are banned because I don’t own one.” “I’ve been condemned to Hell so many times, it just doesn’t phase me anymore.” “We have... Read more
