Hi John; I’m reaching out for some help. Aside from a wonderful pastor/friend in our town, I’ve not been able to speak about this with anyone. Six weeks ago our daughter, now in college, told us she was gay. She explained that she had always known she was, but had tried to deny it. She is a great student and a wonderful person. To me, she’s a model daughter. (more…) Read more

Hi John. I was raised going to a Baptist church, and consider myself very spiritual and close to God. My parents had my brothers and I in the church any time its doors were open. I loved growing up in the church. I always knew I was “different,” but didn’t fully understand that difference until I got older. I am now 26 and came out to my mother about 10 days ago. “Is homosexuality a sin?” is the question that today is splitting Christendom like nothing has since Luther the Reformer asked (in so many words), “Indulgences? Really?” (more…) Read more

Dear John, First, I want to thank you for doing what you do. I’ve been reading your books, blogs, facebook, etc. for a while now. I’ve had friends who just don’t think God wants them the way they are, and I point them to your writings many many times. I know that your encouragement has helped thousands of people find God’s acceptance. (more…) Read more

This week I launched two newsletters. You can sign up for either/both of them here.  John’s Prayer for the Week, sent out every Sunday (or Monday, depending on how my weekend went) morning, is intended to put us in a good mindset to start the new week. In John’s Monthly Newsletter, I’ll catch readers up on personal things happening with me, and offer book deals and giveaways and all that fun stuff. The content of the newsletters will be available nowhere else. You can... Read more

Matt is a young transgender man (meaning he was born female, but self-identifies and prefers to live as a male) who’s been commenting on my blog for the past eighteen months. His comments are invariably intelligent, thoughtful, and encouraging of others. (more…) Read more

Back in July of last year I got an email from one Sue Gunter of Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Sue wrote to say that her church, Fairlington United Methodist, was using my book UNFAIR: Why the “Christian” View of Gays Doesn’t Work  as a basis for discussing whether to become openly welcoming to people of all sexual orientations. She wanted to know if a study-guide for UNFAIR was available for her church’s use. (more…) Read more

Why am I awake? It’s 4 a.m. The only people up at this time of the morning are zombies who got off at the wrong bus stop on their way back to their graveyard and are now just wandering about lost. Also up right now are stalkers. And for sure stalker zombies. And of course people who stalk zombies. I think that last class is pretty small. Zombies probably don’t get a lot of stalkers. It’d too quickly get boring.... Read more

John, I’m a 22-year-old gay Christian, and my father doesn’t approve of the choice I made to accept my sexuality rather than pray it away. I respect his opinion and have not treated him differently because of his views, but he’s started to treat me differently. His actions are not honorable (or loving) in the slightest.
