The Joy Project

A few months had passed since moving to Washington D.C. in the summer of 2013, life had settled into somewhat of a routine and I was not feeling my usually perky self. You might say it was Winter Blues or the adjustment to a new life, but I was not joyful. I struggled with loneliness, fear and a host of other emotions that weren’t honoring to the Lord. Around that time, I picked up a book entitled “One Thousand Gifts” by Ann Voskamp. The premise of the book is discussing thankfulness and joy. Someone challenged the author to write down one thousand things she was thankful for. On the journey to penning her thousand gifts, her attitude towards life was radically altered because she was intentionally looking for things to be thankful about.

Inspired by the book, I decided to put my own spin on it, and I created “The Joy Project”

The joy project

What is The Joy Project?

Everyday during the month, I write down one thing that brought me joy and that I was thankful for that day. some days, the joy is simple – a bird chirping, a phone call with my mother, the sunshine, and other days the joy is more extravagant – a neat trip I took, a fun experience. Regardless if the joy is big or small, it is still a joy.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

– 1 Thessalonians 5:18

It is such a delight to begin my day with eager expectation to see what kind of joys the day will bring. Sure, there have been days when tears have fallen, but I have chosen to find joy. This is also a good way to keep track of my days; I do journal, but not every day.

If you would like to participate, I would love to know the things that are bringing you joy!

Joy is the serious business of Heaven
