Oh. C’mon really, y’all?
What’s wrong with a little crunch in the diet?
Those pesky public health officials in Columbia, S.C. have put the kabosh on a cicada-infused ice cream.
And you thought bugs in your food was nasty.
C’mon. These nummy-crunchies only come around every 13-years.
What’s wrong with you all?
Lighten the bug up.
Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream sold out of its only batch of the insect-filled snack within hours of its June 1 debut. The stores worker bees had collected their winged friends in their backyards and removed most of the dead cicadas’ wings but saved some for texture’s sake.
The cicadas were fully cooked by boiling then covered in brown sugar and milk chocolate.
Did you get that John?
Eddie?
The store was going to make another batch for the weekend, but a sign on the door told customers it won’t be back until 2024. Seems like the City of Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services lacked the proper protocol for cooking the creatures.
“The food code doesn’t directly address cicadas,” environmental health manager Gerry Worley said. “We advised against it.”
And your favorite flavor????
