Last week, I sat down for a chat with actor Jordan Walker Ross. He plays Little James, one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus (played by Catholic actor Jonathan Roumie) on the hit Gospels-based TV series The Chosen.

The Chosen Season Three News

Season three of the show launches with its first two episodes (including the feeding of the 5,000) in theaters on Nov. 18, as a Fathom Event. Ticket info here. Filming took place this season primarily at the show’s new production facility in Midlothian, Texas, including a set of the ancient fishing village of Capernaum, on the shores of the sea of Galilee.

Much of season-two filming happened on an elaborate set of ancient Jerusalem, built by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Goshen, Utah, south of Provo. More on that here, including a video I shot there last December.

So, Who Is Jordan Walker Ross?

Here’s some of how Ross describes himself at his website:

Jordan is an actor, screenwriter, host and public speaker based out of Dallas, TX. He was born in 1990 in Arlington, TX, 2 months premature. This led to several medical issues — specifically minor cerebral palsy, severe scoliosis & even more severe asthma.

Because of these conditions, Jordan spent much of his early life in and out of hospitals, undergoing countless medical procedures. Unlike other children, Jordan was never able to play sports or overexert himself. So, he was forced to find other hobbies.

He was 6 when he discovered his love for acting after being cast in a local production of A Christmas Carol (playing Tiny Tim). By the time he was 16, Jordan had appeared in over 40 professional productions throughout Texas and California.

He ventured into the film/TV when he was 12 — following in his grandpa’s footsteps, actor Barry Corbin.

Along with The Chosen, Ross also played Mikel in Paramount+’s 1883, the hit Old West spin-off of the hit Paramount+ contemporary Western series Yellowstone.

We talked about what’s up with Little James in season three, Ross’ podcast, his disabilities, dealing with fans, how doing the show has affected him, and, of course, the Dallas Cowboys (currently led by backup QB Cooper Rush, to be replaced at any moment by regular QB Dak Prescott, who’s been recovering from a hand injury).

The Chosen Wins an Award, Jonathan Roumie Accepts

Also, on Oct. 23, attended the first live CiMA (Catholics in Media Associates Awards) in a while, held at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Jonathan Roumie was on hand to accept an award for the show, as best Episodic TV series (more on the awards here).

I’ve known him for a while, and he’s a good friend of my company, Family Theater Productions. In fact, FTP’s Head of Production, Father David Guffey, C.S.C., was a consultant on season one of The Chosen.

Here’s the video I shot of Roumie’s acceptance speech, which includes a video message from series creator Dallas Jenkins.

I’ve also seen Roumie’s next starring role, as hippie preacher Lonnie Frisbee, in the upcoming film Jesus Revolution. More on that later.
