Pope Francis hates paperwork–and so do I! There, I’ve said it!
Coupons and junk mail, charitable requests, newspapers, recipe cards, tattered photos, invitations, memos and correspondence, stacks of books and press releases, newspaper clippings for my “idea” file…. My desk is a mess. So is my kitchen counter. So is my bedside table.
But today I enjoy a respite from guilt, after learning that Pope Francis doesn’t like the busywork either.
The Catholic Herald reported today about the pope’s dislike for the minutiae of his job. Asked “What’s the thing you like least about your mission as Pope?”, he frankly admitted:
“Paperwork, office work. It’s the thing I always struggled with.”
Albert Einstein is reported to have said, “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?” I don’t think I’ll ever find out.
