Jesus & Gravity

Dolly’s faith in Jesus always stands at the forefront of her shows, interviews, books, and albums. In her new book Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, Dolly wrote about growing up in a very spiritual and musical family: her grandfather and her aunt were evangelists as well as songwriters, and most of her family are musicians. In addition to always remembering her people, Dolly constantly speaks of her God and his faithfulness. Parton’s faith shows in her grateful, humble attitude, her hard-working spirit, and her ever-inclusive soul. Although she seems to live a fairytale story, her life has had its share of hardship.

Many of her songs speak of prayer and the power of the gospel to help her through. Some of her most recent award-winning songs are collaborations with Christian singers, like the award-winning “God Only Knows” with For King & Country, and GRAMMY-nominated “There Was Jesus” with Zach Williams. And nothing brings down the house like Dolly Parton singing “He’s Alive.” In 2009, Dolly was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and Dollywood serves as home to the Southern Gospel Hall of Fame. In Dolly’s words, she might look like a “Backwoods Barbie,” but where it counts, she’s real.
