Mexico May Pay for the Wall after All!

Mexico May Pay for the Wall after All! March 14, 2020

Mexico may need to build that wall on the U.S.-Mexico border that U.S. President Donald Trump is always harping about that he is trying to get built. He’s doing it to keep immigrants from illegally crossing from Mexico into the U.S., mostly to find a better a life.

In Trump’s political campaign for the U.S. presidency during late 2015, he proclaimed publicly for the first time that Mexico was to blame for “tremendous infectious disease . . .  pouring across the border,” which he often repeated thereafter. Another time the self-professed germaphobe wailed, “tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border. The United States has become a dumping ground for Mexico and, in fact, for many other parts of the world.”

In late 2018, thus as president, Donald Trump exclaimed, “One of the problems that people don’t talk about, you have a tremendous medical problem coming into our country.” Soon after that Trump complained that “large scale crime and disease” was being transported across our southern border.

Yet Trump, as so often, never provided any factual data to support such claims. Rather, the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention had always been screening the vast majority of immigrants for medical conditions who had been entering the country. But Trump must have meant illegal immigrants.

Now, the world is quickly being engulfed in a pandemic with the infectious, novel coronavirus designated COVID-19, which is extremely contagious. It started in the city of Wuhan, China, late last year. Over 4,000 people have died China from it in only a few weeks. Now, Europe is becoming another epicenter of the disease. Italy is in total lockdown, where COVID-19 has flourished so strongly that the mortality rate is about 6% of those who knowingly have it. However, epidemiologists estimate that many times more people in a country have this virus, but they don’t know it simply because they have not been tested for it yet. There has been a scarcity of testing kits.

As of yesterday, over 2,000 people in the U.S. had been tested for this coronavirus and the results came back positive, meaning they have the disease, and about 50 people had died from it in only about the past four weeks. Yet yesterday, Mexico only had a total of nineteen known cases of COVID-19, and no one has died from it yet. So far, regarding this coronavirus, it is safer to live in Mexico than it is in the U.S.

Indeed, Mexico’s health minister Hugo Lopez-Gatel said yesterday in a media conference, “we would have to take into account not that Mexico would bring the virus to the United States, rather the United States could bring it here.” In fact, countries are announcing on a daily basis that they are not allowing any foreigners to enter their country.

Could U.S. citizens begin flocking southward to Mexico to escape getting COVID-19? If so, Mexico could have an illegal immigration problem from its northern neighbor. MEXICO THEREFORE MIGHT NEED TO BUILD THAT WALL TO KEEP US OUT. That would prove Trump right, with him always saying, “MEXICO WILL PAY FOR THE WALL!”
