Scheffler in 3-Way Tie for 1st at AT&T Pebble Beach 2024-02-02T21:59:04-07:00

Scottie Scheffler, the world’s #1 pro golfer, shot a blistering 8-under par 64 at the picturesque Pebble Beach Golf Links in the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am for a three-way tie at 11-under par with Ludvig Aberg and Thomas Detry at the half-way point in this historic tournament that Hollywood movie actor and crooner Bing Crosby used to host during my day on the big circuit. This tournament used to be played on three golf courses, but now on two. Scheffler has little experience on the Pebble Beach track and none at the other course, which is Spyglass.

Sunday’s weather forecast for the tournament’s final round threatens the sensibility of of having a walk in the park while chopping at a little white ball, since there is an expected 90% chance of rain with winds exceeding 35 mph. I can tell you from experience that if that comes to pass, it will a slugfest on that links bordering the world’s biggest water hazard. It will be a fight to keep from getting blown into the sea. One year I played there, the wind speed was so brutal that it made the flagsticks bend back and forth so much that their flag portions kept smacking the surface of the greens.

[The well-liked Scottie Scheffler, from Dallas, Texas, is outspoken about his Christian faith and a member of the nearly 60-year old PGA Tour Bible Study.]
