Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ father, Mike Huckabee, was a Christian pastor and then the governor of Arkansas in 1996-2007. Sarah was President Donald Trump’s first press secretary and is now the governor of Arkansas. Last Tuesday, she spoke at a Republican town hall meeting in Flint, Michigan, preceding Trump. She made a comment that was similar to a comment by J.D. Vance, Trump’s running mate for the White House. Vance denigrated women without kids by calling them “childless cat ladies.”
So, Vance has been criticizing women for not having children. Sarah said, “Not only do my kids serve as a permanent reminder of what’s important, they also keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn’t have anything keeping her humble.”
Frankly, IMO that is a really stupid remark! There are many, many things in life that can serve to keep people humble besides having children. (I have three children and six grandchildren.) What does the Roman Catholic Church thinks of what she said? They believe really holy people—and I expect humble as well, which, of course, is an important element of being holy—must be celibate as priests and nuns.
It looks like Sarah has been around Donald Trump too much. Her dad never talked like that. Trump’s modus operandi includes constantly speaking in superlatives. Thus, Sarah said Kamala doesn’t have “anything” keeping her humble. I think constantly speaking in superlatives is just a bunch of lying. After you hear Trump quite a bit, you can just get used to it, which is what his purpose is—to get people used to his superlatives and other lies by just continually saying them. As he told Billy Bush, you just keep saying lies and people eventually believe what you’re saying.
But the Bible’s wisdom literature makes predictions about what happens to people who are habitual liars. It says, “a liar will not escape. … A false witness will not go unpunished. … A false witness will perish” (Proverbs 19.5, 9; 21.29).
