Is Trump’s Campaign Collapsing as the Bible Predicts? September 16, 2024

I think so. Donald Trump is the biggest liar and most arrogant person I have ever seen. The Bible says of such people, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace” (Proverbs 11:2). And it says, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).

In recent days, everything has been going wrong for former Republican U.S. President Donald Trump in his campaign for a second presidential term to be decided in a few weeks, on November 5th. His campaign has been like a bunch of dominoes lined up that are falling against each other. What’s the evidence? Where do I start? Let’s just go back less than a week.

First, let’s start with Trump’s televised debate six days ago with his opponent, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. It reportedly was viewed by 67 million Americans. Both Republicans, for the most part, and Democrats have agreed it was a total disaster for Trump. And Ms. Harris, the former legal prosecutor, made herself look very calm, in control, and presidential.

Trump exhibited several blunders in the debate. Perhaps the most odious was his reference to a conspiracy theory, which has been soundly debunked by city officials, that legal Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, have been stealing pets and eating them. Trump expounded loudly and provocatively about this falsity in the debate by saying, “They’re eating the dog. … They’re eating the cats.” It made him look like a total clown. It was great fodder for TV comedians, newspaper cartoonists, and advertisements by Democrats. When Trump uttered it, the split TV screen showed Ms. Harris’ amazement and laughter, as many of us TV viewers were doing as well.

Second, Trump’s selection of Senator J. D. Vance of Ohio for his vice presidential running mate also has proved a disaster. Humorists have made lots of fun about his assertion years ago that “childless cat ladies” are running the country. Then Vance was the first, and then Trump, to claim the pet eating in Springfield. The purpose of this foolishness was to enhance Trump’s argument about illegal immigration. But the really stupid thing about this Trump-Vance nonsense is that all Haitian immigrants in Springfield, and there are many, are legal.

Third, Vance admitted yesterday that his account of Haitians in Springfield eating other peoples’ pets was a false, made-up story. But he presented it as being true, just as Trump later did in the debate. Vance explained yesterday, “The American media totally ignored this stuff until Donald Trump and I started talking about cat memes. If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.” Oh, purposely tell fibs to get your point across. Is that politically gainful? The media agrees this statement is a clear admission that his pet story was false and he knew it. Due to this admission, some politicians are calling for Vance to resign running for vice president. And many people are claiming Vance is the worst vice presidential pick of all time.
