Oosthuizen Still Leads The Open

With one round left to play, South African Louis Oosthuizen has a one shot lead over Collin Morikawa in the British Open at Royal St George’s. “King Loui,” as the tabloids are calling him, had lost the last major golf title last month, the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines near San Diego, to Spaniard Jon Rahm. It was Rahm’s first major title. And both 38-year old Oosthuizen and 24-year old Morikawa have won one major each, Louis the British Open in 2010, and Morikawa the PGA Championship in May.

Lurking close behind is three-time major winner Jordan Spieth at two strokes behind Morikawa. Spieth, who uncharacteristically missed a two-foot putt on his final hole today that didn’t even seem to touch the edge of the cup, quickly avoided media interviews and went right to practice putting green, searching for a correction to his mishap.

Oosthuizen and Morikawa arguably have the best swings in professional golf. And all of these leaders the Open, with one round left to go, are among the best players in golf. Like last month’s U.S. Open, when Jon Rahm pretty stole victory from King Loui by holing monster putts on the two last holes, tomorrow at Royal St. George could have the makings of another exciting finish for the world’s greatest game on grass and the world’s oldest major championship, being the 149th.
