From my good friend John Clem of the great blog Call to Holiness, a super video for those among us who are interested in the intersection between technology and human relationships. Enjoy! Connecting (Full Film) from Bassett & Partners on Vimeo. The 18 minute “Connecting” documentary is an exploration of the future of Interaction Design and User Experience from some of the industry’s thought leaders. As the role of software is catapulting forward, Interaction Design is seen to be not... Read more

In preparation for my weekly radio segment this week on the Sonrise Morning Show with Brian Patrick, I need your input. The topic we plan to discuss is “creative ways to use social media as a modern prayer chain”. I must give credit where it’s due: this theme is the brainchild of the ever-awesome Matt Swaim, author of the phenomenal book Prayer in the Digital Age (stay tuned to learn how you can win that!) What Matt and I have been... Read more

Today’s book review is a week late. I’ve been carrying author Janet Morana’s book Recall Abortion: Ending the Abortion Industry’s Exploitation of Women with me for a few weeks and had intended to have my remarks on the book ready for last week’s commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision. That didn’t happen. In many cases, I blame my tardiness on busyness… too much work to do with too little time. But that wasn’t the case... Read more

With a hat tip to my Twitter buddy Marcel LeJeune & with apologies for the Al Roker snippets.. too funny not to share: I’ll bet even Manti laughs when he sees this one! And if you’re wondering why I haven’t blogged about the interview yet, it’s because I haven’t yet had a chance to see the whole thing. Read more

This morning, in my perusing around the Internet I ran across this CNN video touting “Gym offers ‘no work’ workout”: “Wow,” I thought to myself, “Where do I sign up?” The ladies in the video — who look to be around my age — tout the virtues of this new contraption. Stand on it for an hour (looking adorable in your yoga pants and with your hair nicely coiffed) and the inches melt away. You’ll sleep better too. Sign me up… Then... Read more

The Pope wrote me a letter today. Yes, you read that correctly. Today, I received a personal, emotional, instructive and wise missive from my Holy Father. It came in the form of this year’s message for the 47th World Communications Day. His letter had a descriptive title: Social Networks: portals of truth and faith; new spaces for evangelization. It came on his favorite brown parchment paper and contained his signature and a prayer just for me. I read the letter... Read more

Feel like taking a little field trip today? Take ten minutes and treat yourself to this article on the 30 Most Beautiful College Cathedrals. I’ll admit a slight bias, since my alma mater‘s Basilica of the Sacred Heart comes in at number one. For an even better sneak peek, take the Basilica’s Virtual Tour. This place holds special meaning for me. Although I most attended mass in the Basilica’s crypt as a student, I was married in this amazing edifice. If... Read more

A stream of consciousness post, mentally written on my drive home from the mountains yesterday with my son Adam… Your turn the key to the ignition and slowly put the car into drive. Both teens, wiped out from a day of skiing, are asleep before the tires finish crunching their way out of the slushy, muddy, salty parking lot. You remind yourself again that driving them up to the mountain was a great decision, despite the time and the cold... Read more

One of my fellow Patheos bloggers asked an interesting question the other day to our group, querying the rest of us about how we organize and keep track of our writing commitments. I was amazed by the variety of answers and the creativity of some of my fellow writers. My answer was boring: Google Calendar. When I’m lucky enough to be invited to write somewhere, the commitment immediately goes onto one of my multi-colored calendars and a reminder is set... Read more

As the whole Manti Te’o/”Lennay Kekua saga” continues with information swirling around us, I’ve been pondering what — in absence of the absolute truth — I can as (as a mother) share about this situation with my two sons. Our eldest is close to Manti’s age, and an equally gifted young man. Our youngest, a high school senior, is perched on the edge of his future. As with so many stories like this, my frame of reference comes from wanting to... Read more
