Forget Me Not: The Promise, The Peace, and The Path Forward

Forget Me Not: The Promise, The Peace, and The Path Forward August 27, 2024

Don’t forget to remember.

Welcome back to Live Full Die Empty, where we believe in filling our cups with joy, not just coffee!

One of the primary ways that I keep my cup filled with joy is by letting myself just be silly sometimes. My husband and family have come to expect me to walk through the house (their house and mine) with random outbursts of laughter or singing silly songs out loud. Speaking of silly songs and our topic for the day, a melody that’s currently in my head goes like this:

Sending you forget me not’s
Won’t let you remember
Baby please forget me not
Galaxy defender

You may be thinking to yourself that’s not how that song goes. You’re exactly right! I have remixed Patrice Rushen’s version with Will Smith’s and made a crazy mashup, LOL. I have to say, personally, I love it. In fact, that is my gratitude point for the week. I love being my upbeat, lighthearted, authentic, silly self. I can never forget that girl. That girl has held me and helped me heal. I’m grateful for levity and laughter. Do you know that the Bible tells us that laughter is medicine? Science even backs it up. The Mayo Clinic listed laughter as a positive stimulant in stress management. Look at that, you learned something today. Yay!

That brings me to our quote of the week that I won’t soon forget. I certainly hope y’all don’t get tired of GOT references because I have another one for you this week.

Quote:
“Will you fight for me as free men?”

A struggling young princess who is coming into her identity and taking her power back, made a clarion call to 8,000 soldiers. These men were at the beck and call of a businessman who only respected money and his own authority. This woman on a mission invited them to join a cause and to do it in their autonomy. I can draw so many parallels from Game of Thrones to our lives but for now I’ll just say, never forget that God paid the ultimate price for your freedom. Jesus hung, bled, and died so that you would not have to be a slave to sin, so that you would not have to be a slave to fleshly, carnal thoughts. Now Jesus Christ, our Savior, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords sits high on a throne in heaven. The good news is He is not looking to punish you but to bless you.

Do you ever feel like no matter how much you achieve, there’s a part of you that still feels broken or unfulfilled? Perhaps it’s due to family dysfunction or a history of abuse. Perhaps it’s due to you feeling unseen, unheard and no gratitude or acknowledgement has been shown to you.

Let me be the first to tell you I FEEL YOU. I sat in that same space. It clouded the lens through which I viewed the world and it caused my decision making to be warped. I settled for less than I was worthy off. I connected to people who either had no drive or weren’t going in the direction I was. And as a result I was not only wounded, but I was stuck. I saw your eyes get big when you read that last part. I heard your heart say Amen. You are not alone sis. God knows and He cares. Don’t allow yourself to stay in bitterness or shame one more moment. REMEMBER whose you are. REMEMBER you are free. REMEMBER your power. The power of the Holy Ghost!

Let’s take these quick 4 steps together:

Acknowledge it.
Heal from it.
Move beyond these wounds.
Find true peace and fulfillment.

It’s that simple. Not easy, simple.

Need some practical ways to keep moving and not staying stuck in that space? Here they are:

Talk about it. Speak to a trusted friend spiritual leader or therapist. Take the stung out of it by being open.

Forgive. Forgive Yourself and your abuser or the person that dropped or overlooked you.

Encouragement. Stay uplifted through scripture.

Journal. Let the tears and the words flow. Get it down on paper and out of your system

Meditate. Spend quite time with the Lord. No noise and no devices. Pray from your heart.

Jesus cautioned us not to get caught up in the worries of everyday life, not even what we will eat or drink. He said that if you would seek His Kingdom first, then He will add everything else you need. But He didn’t stop there. He made note that God takes pleasure in giving us the Kingdom. God is amazing! Never forget that. Always remember His love and sacrifice for you. That is everything.

Peace be unto you Friend.
