Gallup’s ‘Most Admired People’ List for 2017 Shows Exactly What’s Wrong with America

Well, this explains a great deal.

Gallup just released a list of the ‘Most Admired People’ in America, and the results are pretty revealing.  Once again, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton came up on top in the category of “man and woman living anywhere in the world they admire most.”  This is the tenth year in a row that these people have received this honor, though their margins are shrinking.

Second in the male category is Donald Trump, followed by Pope Francis, Rev. Billy Graham, John McCain, Elon Musk, Bernie Sanders, Bill Gates, Benjamin Netanyahu, Jeff Bezos, The Dalia Lama, and Mike Pence.

Second in the female category is Michelle Obama, followed by Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Warren, Angela Merkel, Queen Elizabeth II, Condoleezza Rice, Melania Trump, Nikki Haley, Kate Middleton, and Beyonce.

Here’s what is incredibly, insufferably wrong with these results: politicians shouldn’t even make it to the top 100 on this list.  As Americans, we need a healthy skepticism of our so-called political leaders, not a reverence for them.  (And yes, I’d say the same thing if conservatives were at the top of the list…  but really, Barack Obama and Hillary?  Please.)

The results of this Gallup poll unintentionally reveal that America needs to reorient itself to being a self-governing society, comprised of people who looks to themselves to solve their problems instead of the Almighty Government.

Americans used to govern themselves. When this nation was founded, the government acted only to protect life, liberty and property. Now, it has encroached into every area of life, so we endlessly debate the healthcare, education, and economic policies our so-called leaders hand down to us. However, the citizens should make these crucial decisions. Who decides? According to the founders and Constitution, we do. Let’s quit worshipping our politicians and start acting like it.
