Two Contradictory, Silly Facebook Comments Accidentally Reveal One Important Truth April 6, 2018

The Convention of States is taking the nation by storm.

Article V of the U.S. Constitution gives states the power to call a Convention of States to propose amendments. It takes 34 states to call the convention and 38 to ratify any amendments that are proposed. Our convention would only allow the states to discuss amendments that, “limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on federal officials.”

Don’t you think we need that now?  Americans of all political stripes realize the federal government has grown too big and corrupt to do any of us any good.  (And it typically does us great harm.)  It’s already passed in twelve states, on our way to actually calling a Convention of States.

But if you look at our Facebook page, you might be led to believe that this isn’t a grassroots organization using our Constitution to save the country.  Instead, you might be led to believe that there is some nefarious, deep pocketed evil mastermind behind it.  Today, I was looking at two recent comments on one of our state pages, which happened to be nestled next to each other.  According to the comments, it seems that either George Soros and his leftist pals are behind us.  Or… the Koch brothers and their cronies.

I’m sure if I dove more deeply into the social media, I might suddenly be accosted by accusations that it could be even worse.

Like aliens.

Or the libertarians

Or…the Masons

Or even the Russians…

You see, people have a hard time believing that a grassroots organization can be as powerful, organized, and effective as ours.  This belief, however, is rooted in a deep distrust of “we the people.”  Our founders knew that human beings were frail, and that power tended to corrupt those in power.  That’s why they spread out the power — in the federal government amongst three branches, but also by giving the states powers as well.  A Convention of States was placed in our Constitution by these Founders, to give citizens the right to fight back against a government that has grown too large and shows no sign of restricting itself.

Want to really know who’s behind the Convention of States movement?  Don’t believe random comments on social media.  It’s not Soros or Koch, it’s your neighbor, it’s your postman, your accountant, your grandchild’s teacher.  Yes, individually, we might not be that impressive.  But when we unite, arm in arm, in a historic cause, we can do great things.

Find out what “We the People” are doing by clicking over to the Convention of States website and sign up to help.  “We the people” is you, after all.  So, go ahead and join us.  I promise, you won’t find Koch or Soros here.  But you just might rediscover the spirit of liberty.
