Google Believes the New, Egg-free Vegan Salad Emoji Strikes a Blow for Inclusivity

Google Believes the New, Egg-free Vegan Salad Emoji Strikes a Blow for Inclusivity 2018-06-07T09:56:47-06:00

Do you see a difference between the “before” and “after” version of Android’s new emojis for salads?

If you have an eagle eye, you notice that one has an egg in it and the other does not.

The way Jennifer Daniel describes this change, you’d think the emoji designers were as courageous as Rosa Parks.

“There’s big talk about inclusion and diversity at Google so if you need any evidence of Google is making this priority may I direct your attention to the [salad] emoji— we’ve removed the egg in Android P beta 2, making this a more inclusive vegan salad,” she tweeted.

Wait, what?  We learned that “diversity” was a factor in emoji production, when “black emojis” started showing up, since the yellow ones were too close to being white.  Then, Apple took the gun emoji away, replacing it with a water gun, along with other politically correct changes:

It will also introduce new and revamped emojis that show women doing stereotypically male jobs like detective, construction worker, and police officer. There are new female athletes, a pride flag, and family options for single parents.

Okay, whatever.  It seems like a lot of politics is seeping into something that doesn’t need to be politicized.  (And vilifying guns is not the way to celebrate our Constitutional freedoms.  If your family was attacked, you’d want more than a water gun, I guarantee it.)  But this salad thing is just about the dumbest thing in the world.

Confession: I will never ever ever use a salad emoji, and I don’t care what it looks like.

But the fact that taking the egg out of the salad strikes a blow for “inclusivity” is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever read.  Taking away the egg for vegans makes it more exclusive, not inclusive. How many vegans are there, really?

However, the left always just makes up the definition of words as they go along. Daniel must’ve gotten pushback on this asinine statement, because her later pinned tweet reads:

“Hello carnivores, vegans and everyone in between! Just want to clarify that the goal of salad emoji redesign was to create an image more faithful to unicode’s description. ‘A bowl of healthy salad, containing lettuce, tomato, and other salad items such as cucumber.’ Bon appetite!”

This is what people who don’t actually have to work for a living spend their time thinking about.  “Inclusive salads.”

But for most of us, their identity politics is a little tough to swallow.
