My brother and I recently had a conversation about God & religion in

which he told me he believes he is a theist. But he thinks it is a huge leap from theism to belief in the God of the bible, or any religion for that matter. He seems to find it all unnecessary, but he is open to being convinced.

Can you recommend any books that tackle this subject?

Peter Kreeft’s Fundamentals of the Faith and my own Making Senses Out of Scripture both offer a popular treatment of how to move from mere theism (which you can get to by natural reason) to supernatural revelation. He’s right that a step must be taken to get from natural revelation (i.e. what you can tell about God by looking around at stuff) to supernatural revelation (i.e. things you can’t know about God if God didn’t tell you himself). That’s why revelation is necessary. But it is not an unreasonable step and millions have, quite sensibly, taken it. I suggest one of those two books for starters. There are a lot more, depending on what specific issues he has with the Faith.
