I’m too much of a coward…

…to go that deeply into debt (50K on a *credit card*?). But she’s right on in her description of the tightrope you walk as a professional writer. It’s nice to be able to, say, take off on Friday and go to our Hidden Island Redoubt somewhere in the San Juans for our annual Memorial Day Fun. But on the other hand, it’s typically a ten-twelve hour day. The idea of racking up some giant debt so I could have a posh house and a plasma TV is… insane. We strive very hard to live within our means, precisely because I would never want to face what the poor guy she links faces. Such timidity probably points to a defect in my character: a lack of courage to take chances. But there it is.
