Interesting Little Interview

Interesting Little Interview 2015-01-01T15:00:09-07:00

…with Abp. Raymond Burke. K-Lo tries to back him into telling Wuerl what to do, but he declines. Still, he’s pretty clear on what he thinks about voting for pols you know are abortion-supporters.

Which reminds me. A week or so ago, I sharply criticized Brownback for voting to confirm Kathleen Sebelius and got chewed out in my combox because Brownback is a great pro-life hero, etc.

Now, in this interview, Burke makes the rather obvious point that if J. Random Voter (whose vote exerts almost infinitely less influence on the outcome of a Presidential election than a senator has on the outcome of a confirmation hearing for head of HHS) votes for Obama with full understanding that he is voting for Obama’s pro-abortion policies, he is a sinner who has cooperated with evil and needs to hie himself to confession. Similarly, I was told by dozens of readers that it was not even enough that I didn’t vote for Obama: No, anything less than support for McCain was still “a vote for Obama” and I was guilty of the blood of millions, a traitor to the pro-life cause, etc ad nauseam.

But when Senator Brownback, prolife hero, uses his power as one of 51 people in the US capable of doing so, to decide that an enthusiastic supporter of third term and partial birth abortions shall preside over a department that has direct influence on abortion in the US… well, how *horrible* of me to call this a betrayal!

I don’t get that.
