including the enormous damage created by Fr. Maciel. It will be interesting to see if the Legionaries sell off things like the National Catholic Register and Zenit. I’d like to see it happen, since it seems to me that Maciel rather carefully constructed his organization to enshroud his reputation with lies and his considerable gifts as a bureaucrat and organizer of genius have succeeded in creating an organization that goes on doing what he designed it to do long after his death. Getting the Legionaries tentacles out of the business of “controlling the message” would seem to be a good step toward helping to clear the air. I don’t envy the people who have to sort through that train wreck. Meanwhile, I pray for all the well-meaning Legionaries who got snookered by the man and his various enablers.

It’s moments like this I’m grateful that I’m not much of a joiner. (Though, no doubt, I also miss out on a lot as a result too.)
