There’s a push in my home state to stop the exemptions in equal opportunity laws that have allowed the Catholic church (and other religious groups) to make choices on faith/moral grounds about the people they hire…

I actually think it’s going to be politically tricky to completely remove the exemptions from religious organisations. But it’s likely they’ll end up with a compromise where for example in schools, people like receptionists/gardeners etc will come under the anti-discrimination laws, but those with “direct” contact with the kids won’t…

Dunno how this will play out in the US since the theory is still separation of Church and State. But I expect Caesar will not be able to resist the itch in the long run to force the Church to capitulate and call state-approved sin good. He is a jealous god, after all.
