A reader writes from the People’s Republic of Maplegrad August 14, 2009

This may be rather too depressing… It makes me think of Orwell, whose non-fiction essays I am currently reading.

Note that this is an argument in FAVOUR of private medicine because public regulations would become too burdensome for Morgentaler and his henchpersons.

For the record, I am in favour of public health care as opposed to the current system used in the USA as a matter of social justice, but when I see stuff like this, I just don’t think our culture can really support anything simply decent, life-affirming, and hopeful, regardless of who delivers it or how it’s funded.

I do get the impression that our faith in technological fixes has persuaded us that so long as we get a system right, we do not need to bother with repentance in the heart.
