From Tasha’ Mom, on Location at UWMC Labor and Delivery

From Tasha’ Mom, on Location at UWMC Labor and Delivery August 17, 2009

*The Lucy Report; Afternoon Edition*

I finally have some good news to report. Tasha now has an epidural in place, and is enjoying freedom from pain for the first time in days. All through the worst of this, Tasha has been an amazing trooper, resorting to gallows humor, singing harmony, and intensive spelling bees to cope with sometimes very intense pain. But that’s now all over. Her whole face has relaxed into peacefulness and smiles. What a relief.

The OB team has placed internal monitors in order to keep an eye on the baby’s health and the contractions as they administer increasing levels of pitocin to induce deeper labor. This has the added bonus of freeing Tasha from the straps and binding and fussing of the external monitors she has been having to wear since Friday. Excellent.

The end result is that Tasha is comfortable and happy and the lead resident expects us to have a baby sometime late tonight. Yay!

Thanks everybody for all your love and support. I hope to have more good news for you soon.

Love,
Holly

Further bulletins as they appear.

By the way, Luke tells me he and Tasha harmonized beautifully at 3 AM, singing both “Bohemian Rhapsody” in its entirety, followed by “Amazing Grace”.

They were both members of Soundsations, the Edmonds Community College Vocal Jazz Ensemble and they both have a fine set of pipes, so I imagine it was a real treat for the other Mom’s and staff on the floor. They are starting to become legendary as the labor lingers on.
