A beautiful story

A beautiful story 2014-12-31T17:47:41-07:00

from one of the 40 Days for Life Prayer Volunteers in Everett, WA:

It was a busy day. Many people were arriving for the clinic’s opening at 11:00. I thought Monday’s were slow and that no abortions were done but I could see from the number of cars and the faces of the people arriving that was not the case. It was a lot of single girls and some couples. One couple, probably in their late 20s or 30s came to PP and was waiting outside for the doors to be unlocked. The woman looked at us and then turned towards her boyfriend. He held her as she wiped tears from her eyes. She collected her self and turned to stand next to him but we could still see that she was wiping tears from her eyes. Her hair was uncombed and she looked somewhat desheveled. Her male companion was tall, atheletic, dark complexioned and seemed to care for her very much. I thought maybe he was hispanic.

We offered her the counselling materials but they ignored us or just shook their heads. We tried again but no luck. I rummaged thru one of the prayer boxes and saw a card with a Miraculous Medal that I got in the mail from a group soliciting funds. (I can’t remember which group sent that to me.) The card was sealed on the side with a small clear sticker so it was unopened and in nice condition. I believe that the inside explained about the Miraculous Medal but the medal was visible from the outside of the card and was attached to a flimsy gold chain. I picked up the card and kept it in my hand. I don’t know why. I think I knew that if I could I would give it to this woman.
There was motion inside and outside the clinic as the doors were unlocked and the next thing I knew I was handing her the literature and the card with the medal. I said something like, “This is something special just for you.” Which was true because I didn’t give anyone else a card like that.

Anyway, I asked the Blessed Mother to do something for this woman and save her baby. It wasn’t a very pious or deep prayer but it was sincere and I left it up to her. I honestly knew that the chances of her coming back out before I left my shift were slim to none. I felt I would never see her again.

Little did I know, out she would come! Maybe a half hour or 45 minutes later. She looked straight at me and smiled. She looked 10 years younger and reminded me of a young Bridget Bardot before she got caught up in her French lifestyle, if you know what I mean. I think the weight of the world must have been lifted off her shoulders by not having an abortion. Then I offered her boyfriend a rosary. Which he took!
The day was so beautiful. There was very little wind and a clear blue sky. There was silence except for the soft prayers from the prayer team. She didn’t say anything to us so we didn’t exchange any words. They just drove away in their jalopy. I wonder where they went. So, I don’t know if she was scheduled for an abortion but it seems like that is the case.

I was talking to xxxx and he said he was going to order 1,000 Miraculous Medals, which I thought was a good idea. I think we should dedicate our 40 DFL efforts to the Blessed Mother and make her our Patroness for the Campaign. I don’t know how to do that. I think that is the message that I got from this experience especially since our current times are so like the times that Sr. Catherine Labouré was experiencing in France at the time that Mary appeared to her. I also read that St. Maxamillian Kolbe, who is truly a saint for a mission such as 40 DFL, adopted the miraculous medal as the badge of the “Pious Union of the Militia of the Immaculate Conception” in 1917.

Thanks be to God for his mercy in Christ Jesus!
