Commonweal Refuses to Take “Yes” for an Answer

Commonweal Refuses to Take “Yes” for an Answer 2014-12-31T17:47:46-07:00

After making it extremely clear that my stupidity was my fault and that I didn’t blame Commonweal a bit for pointing it out, I mentioned that Commonweal was being dumb to try to steal bases and claim that “This “Lefties think Obama is the messiah!” meme is really getting old. The only people fooled by it are the ones spouting it — just as the only people who call Obama “The One” are people who think they’re being satirical.” I helpfully supplied the writer over at Commonweal with a commonwealth of easy-to-find quotes from Obama cultists all over the media who have, in fact, dribbled all kinds of secular messianic drool about the guy (though I sadly was unaware of this gem):

I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God.” – Evan Thomas

My purpose was not to excuse my stupidity but to say that it’s rather a ludicrous bit of base-stealing to claim that the messianic dribble about Obama is a purely a “meme” of Righties (meaning “a commonly known truth that I dislike hearing”).

The Commonweal writer, in a pattern for which the Commonweal blog is somewhat known, admits no flaw in her argument whatsoever. My place in this conversation was to be schooled by my better, not to offer the possibility that something she said could possibly be fallible in any way. So once more she soldiers to the cause, replying to my helpful enumeration of secular messianic Obama quotes with a non-reply (“I guess he keeps those citations handy in case of emergencies?”) and then returns to demanding that I apologize for what I have already apologized for. No acknowledgement whatsoever is made that her claim of Right Wing Memery is rubbish and that the reason there is a broad perception of Obamafied Secular Messianism on the Left is because it’s, you know, there.

She then helpfully posts the rebuke to her inferior with the comments closed. “Dialogue” is for people who want to talk about how backward the Church is on pelvic issues, not for the little people who question their Betters, doncha know.
