The bright side is, since he is now shown to be a plagiarist in addition to his many other feats of fraud, maybe the guy who did write this stuff was actually a decent guy with something to say. 🙂 I never read anything Maciel wrote (or claimed to write). But I’ve heard it’s pretty dull stuff. A friend of mine says, “My wife and daughters were interested in Regnum Christi so I read ‘Christ is My Life,’ which is sort of an autobiography. It screams ‘Fraud’ on every page. At least to me.”

I’ll take his word for it. I sure as hell wouldn’t take Maciel’s word for anything.

It’s funny how you can develop a certain radar for things. I’ve sometimes “just known” the identity of anonymous combox abusers when they pop in under false ids after being banned. I suppose if I analyze it enough, I’d know how I knew. But the odd thing is that I knew without analyzing. I expect that there are people who likewise could just spot Maciel as a fraud without knowing quite how they knew. The whole phenomenon of psychological “radar” that delivers all sorts of information to us through a mass of sub-verbal and subliminal cue is fascinating to me. “Intuition” is the word, I think. I wonder what it is and how it works.
