So, I have a dream. The KJV-CE: a King James Bible with the imprimatur and ecclesiastical approbation of the Church, so that converts from certain denominations can continue to study and memorize from their beloved version while being able to gain the indulgences and other perks attached to using translations approved by the Church.

Since the text is in the public domain, making the necessary changes should be easy enough.

If you think this is a good idea, or knows someone who might, please post it to your blog and pass it along. I want to gauge the interest level.

Given that a) the Douay-Rheims is an English translation that predates the KJV; b) the Revised Standard Version is based on the KJV and already has ecclesial approval and c) KJV purists are almost entirely profoundly anti-Catholic, I think this is a project that’s not like to interest many people. Not that I have any objections to the KJV. It was *the* Bible for English speakers for centuries and our language owes it a colossal debt. But I’m skeptical the game is worth the candle.
