Glenn Beck Found to be Saner than the American People

Glenn Beck Found to be Saner than the American People January 8, 2010

Give me strength!

According to a recent poll Americans admire Glenn Beck more than they admire the Pope.

To his great credit, Beck’s reaction is:

“It is so disturbing,” he said. “It’s so wrong. … When somebody phoned me up [with the news], I said, ‘Shut the hell up!’ … None of it’s good news for the world.”

My issue with Beck is not really, I suspect, with Beck. I think him an unstable and rather pitiable man who is headed for a major flameout that will be tragic to behold.

My issue is with the fools (and especially the Catholic fools) who are the respondents to that poll. I said it before and will say it again:

Ideas have consequences, as the Right will find out if they keep following this nuttery.

Non-Catholic conservatives I can see casting around in desperation for some sort of anchorhold as the fortunes of their party tank. But Catholics? Battening on this radical paranoid Mormon apocalyptic rubbish in preference to the guidance of the Church? That’s nuts.

Look here, upon this picture, and on this,
The counterfeit presentment of two brothers.
See, what a grace was seated on this brow;
Hyperion’s curls; the front of Jove himself;
An eye like Mars, to threaten and command;
A station like the herald Mercury
New-lighted on a heaven-kissing hill;
A combination and a form indeed,
Where every god did seem to set his seal,
To give the world assurance of a man:
This was your husband. Look you now, what follows:
Here is your husband; like a mildew’d ear,
Blasting his wholesome brother. Have you eyes?
Could you on this fair mountain leave to feed,
And batten on this moor? Ha! have you eyes?

Where are the Catholic conservatives saying, “Whoa! Not so fast! Why are we taking this guy seriously?”
