I mentioned the other day that American Pride is a virtue rather than a sin. Here’s what I mean. We are nurturing a population that is more ignorant than ever, but which *feels* really good about itself. We don’t mind being stupid, so long as we don’t feel stupid. In fact, if somebody makes use feel stupid in the effort to educate us out of being stupid, we bitterly resent it and have a bristling artillery of political correctness to arraign people for “disrespecting” us.

There is no genetic degradation of human intelligence happening. The reason American kids rank so low in academics among the developing nations is because our schools suck. The reason they suck is because our nation is infected with Pride, thinks its a virtue and not the fountain of all sin, and those sins make you stupid.

As is always the case with sin, the way to tackle it is “Repent, and believe the good news.” Seek first the Kingdom and everything else, including a sane and sound educational system will follow. Homeschoolers can do that. Public schools, not so much.
