…till Fr. Mitch Pacwa told me. Like, did you know the Church discourages the practice of naming your Guardian Angel? See paragraph 217 here.
I discovered that sitting in a little airport cafe in Petoskey, MI last month with Fr. Pacwa and the lovely folk who squired us around at the Boyne Mountain Marian conference. News to me, but there you are. I suspect Fr. Pacwa has forgotten more little known factoids than I will ever know.
Not that I have given much thought to naming my angel. But now, that’s one less thing on my plate! I’ll just call him “Guardian Angel”. Serviceable and to the point.
Update: I thought you’d enjoy this conversation:
Reader: I didn’t know it was discouraged either, but Ethel Hortense Petunia flapped her wings excitedly, I don’t know why, when I told her what I had learned. She is now addressed as “Madam Angel” and for some reason seems to like that better, though I feel it lacks the personal touch.
Me: Please. Call her “Guardian Angel”. She worked so hard to get that title.
