…as a laboratory for social experimentation. Why? Because the military is sworn to obey orders. So while its a dodgy proposition that a leftist authoritarian will get the courts to impose some new experimental regime on free citizens, he can always simply command the military to impose some demented idea on the troops and they *have* to do it cuz it’s orders.
However, even the military has its limits. So the Administration’s most recent attempts to say, “Tolerance is not enough. You. MUST. Approve of gay marriage!” are being met with resistance by the fact that thousands of military chaplains are finding ways to resist the demand that they perform gay “marriage”.
I suspect that in the end, gay “marriage” will win the battle but lose the war. That is, the advocates of it will succeed in imposing it by main force. Resistance will be punished and freedom of conscience crushed here as elsewhere. But the ultimate goal of gay “marriage” is to try to force people to acknowledge that homosex is normal, healthy and good. And getting people to do that is a much tougher thing to do, because people know that it is not and they dislike being punished and crushed for legitimately held opinions. Most people are willing to let gay folk do whatever it is they do in their own bedrooms. But being perpetually hectored and threatened into approving of it will only backfire–as is long overdue.
However, the gay “rights” movement is a militant faith and so will go on hectoring, threatening, punishing and crushing Christians in particular. And it will aggressively evangelize and pervert children to the worship of homosex. Show me a culture that despises virginity (and none does so more aggressively than the gay subculture) and I will show you a culture that despises children. Hopefully, the bread and circuses will not keep us comfortable numb for too much longer.
