Dear friends,
Today is a good day! I spent most of the day with Fr. Dumas, and I am happy to report on three steps of progress!
1. Today Father went from having the machine breathe for him to breathing by himself with support from the machine. But it gets better! Around 5:30 PM (after doing an ABG) they decided that he was ready to be taken out of the machine altogether! So now he is breathing completely on his own! They still put in an oxygen tube to provide more oxygen.
2. As the nurses were turning him on the bed, I was happily shocked to see his eyes open! The nurse said he has actually been opening his eyes every time they turn him since yesterday! He might even have done it once the day before. Why in the world they did not tell me that since two days ago, I have no idea! When the eye opens he does not concentrate on any object, but it is nonetheless a beautiful sign of what God is doing in him! He probably opens the eyes at the stimulus of some discomfort or pain.
3. I was happy to administer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick for Father Dumas.
He (in his subconsciousness) and I prayed a rosary, midday and evening prayers together.
He has a guestbook now so his friends can sign their names and leave him some messages. He can read them after he recovers.Your prayers and support are invaluable! Today is a good day!
God bless you!
