The boy we have been praying for, who attempted suicide, has died

The boy we have been praying for, who attempted suicide, has died May 17, 2013

Of your charity, pray for Michael and his family.

May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Grant all who love him grace, peace, strength, consolation and hope.  Mother Mary, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.  We ask all this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Prayers for Michael and his family! The anguish is palpable, but with a support system/group and therapy hope is possible … but usually takes a good long while.

I think it is time that Saint Augustin’s teaching on suicidal ( he is a Doctor of the Church) may be reviewed. He said that those who commit / attempt suicide are not good Christians. He failed to understand the despair, pain of the person , along with the family, friends which leads to such decision. Only God has the right to decide where that person goes after death. Lately, the Church has changed its view on this topic, but St Augustin is still on the list of Doctors of the Church, misleading the readers.

The fact that someone is honored as a Doctor of the Church does not imply that everything that person wrote or taught is Church teaching.

Rather than reviewing the writings of a Saint who has been dead for 1,600 years, maybe instead we should ask why he failed to understand those feelings. Hasn’t the world progressed? Perhaps, more importantly: why is it that we all understand that pain so very well? And after so many hundreds of years of progress.

O my Jesus, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of your mercy.
