The Monks of Melleray…

The Monks of Melleray… January 14, 2015

show us the Church struggling on in Ireland.  An Irish reader writes:

The Church in Ireland is like a grandparent with a bratty teenager of a nation knocking the wisdom of centuries anxious to get out & be free of ‘old people’ and take the car on prom night.

That was my impression too when I was there.  The scandals are a convenient excuse for many Irish to ditch the Church, not the acttual reason.  The actual reason is the usual:  money, power, pleasure and honor.  I trust in Christ that after this time of purgation, the Church will rise like her Lord.  I don’t know if Ireland (or the US) will.  The Church is eternal.  Nation-states come and go.
