The people who constantly sneer at the right to health care and “climate hysteria”…

…never sneer at “terror hysteria”. I’m seeing calls on my Facebook page to be “proactive” and start rounding up all Muslims since the London attack. Likewise, lots of cries for the Brits to adopt a “second amendment” solution and arm themselves.  All this is only ginned up by the disgusting spectacle of our Bully-in-Chief taking the occasion of a tragedy to take a leak in the face of our biggest ally in the wake of this attack.

Ahem. Some perspective:

Clearly, the solution is to kick 24 million people off health care and suspend the Constitution by rounding up all people strictly on the basis of their religion to protect us from The Terrorists.  This was, in fact, bruited by the Bigot-in-Chief during his campaign–and is still cheered by Trumpian Christians all over St. Blog’s and FB comboxes who, when not wringing their hands about The Coming Diocletian Persecution are big champions of Do Unto Others What You Whinge May Happen to You.

What’s amazing to me is the blindness with which these people, so ready to call Trump’s critics “snowflakes”, regard their own cowardice.  They are ready to burn the Constitution at the drop of a hat just to keep their skins safe after an outrage kills seven people in London.  Freedom of religion?  Forget it.  If we are to survive, we must abolish it!  It’s the only way to save our skins!

This same crowd, naturally, calls for more guns, not just for Americans, but Brits as well.  Only here’s the thing.  Those of us not in the grip of hysteria remain able to perform basic math.  Some of us note the following math fact:

7<33,000.

33,000 is about the number of people slaughtered by American gun owners each and every year.  Terrorists *wish* they could butcher that many Americans each year, but Americans proudly boast our homegrown ability to kill ourselves and each other with guns in numbers that dwarf the pathetic powers of terrorists to kill us. It being early June, we have just passed the halfway point in our annual harvest of blood.  By December 31, another 16,500 people now alive will be dead because a gun was quickly and easily available for that heist, that party, that moment when the wife announced she was leaving, for that moment when a suicidal impulse that would have been regretted a half an hour later was made eternal. If those 33,000 people were killed in terror attack, Trump would demand–and his fanboi would certainly give him–sweeping dictatorial powers to counter the threat. But since it’s Americans doing the killing, Americans not only do nothing, but defend by the millions making sure that next year another 33,000 die.  The first amendment can be burnt, but never the second, because the myth is that the human sacrifice of 33,000 victims each year will protect us from The Terrorists (that tiny dot on the chart) who endanger us all.

Indeed, the only response of the Gun Cult (those whose first, last, and only response to gun violence (such as the slaughter in Orlando the other day) is:

1. Don’t politicize this tragedy by trying to prevent the next one.
2. Cheering for people like Trump who instantly politicize the tragedy by shouting “MOAR GUNS!”

In the case of London, the response of the American Gun Cult is “If only everybody had been armed!” Because the Gun Cult exists to enrich the arms industry, not save lives.

Here, again, is reality.  One man in Orlando was capable of slaughtering 5 people and himself–nearly equal to the butchery in London–in a matter of moments for the simple reason that he possessed technology capable of killing lots of people quickly and efficiently. Orlando has already experienced this in spades as one man slaughtered 49 people last year with his oh-so-precious gun.

The three guys in London were dead within eight minutes of the attack and could only kill seven people for one reason:  they lacked guns and were massively outgunned by cops who had them.  They could not carry out the full scale massacre they hungered to do because the UK makes it very hard to attain the technology that makes it easy for few or one to slaughter huge numbers of innocents at once.

But American conservatives, with their infallible gift of total wrongness about everything want to export the second amendment while burning the first amendment here at home.  They want to play right into ISIS’ hands by punishing innocent Muslims merely for being Muslim and then hand their radicalized victims guns once they conclude, “It doesn’t matter how much of a good citizen I try to be, they still are going to round me up and put me in a camp.”  And the biggest champions of religious persecution of all Muslims are the same people who constantly preach that conservative Christians must live in constant terror of the Liberals who are coming put them in concentration camps.

And with supreme good judgment, in the face of this infinitesimally small danger in the grand scheme of things, they are eager to make sure that the sick get sicker and the dying die faster by the millions.  Because #prolife! And #prudentialjudgment

Yeah.  That’s smart.

The spectacle of a subculture that has been so wrong about so much so many times for so long blathering about its “prudence” being superior to the Church’s is a breathtaking example of Right’s talent for being a living laboratory of the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
