“When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers,” says an old Hindu proverb. You might say the same of when they dance.
Currently, big business and big government are in a weird state of sexual tension in which they sometimes fight and sometimes engage in a sort of passionate lovemaking–like two tyrannosaurs who can’t decide whether to mate or eat each other.
Exhibit A: Thanks For The Bailout Suckers; GM to invest extra $540 million in Mexico to build motors
Of course, it’s not the taxpayers who are suckers. Suckers give of their own free will. We are compelled to give at gunpoint: to gigantic corporations–by the state.
But giant corporations need it. How else would CEO pay have risen 11% in 2010 if not by extracting corporate welfare from your pocket at gunpoint?
The best part is that Left wing talking heads have their base convinced that the Dems and our God King aren’t complete in bed with Big Business while right wing talking heads have their base convinced that the people who are fattening themselves on corporate welfare believe in free competition and care about the little guy.
