In light of Respect Life Month, Breast Cancer Month, and the Month of the Rosary, I would like to petition you on behalf of my daughter, Erika.
Over two years ago, at age 28 and 20 weeks pregnant, she was handed a diagnosis of breast cancer. In spite of local medical consensus, she chose to disregard her doctor’s advice to abort and chose, instead, to travel to MD Anderson in Houston, TX for chemotherapy treatments while pregnant. For some reason, although MD Anderson has successfully treated pregnant women with cancer for over 20 years, many doctors do not (will not) acknowledge this option.
Now two years later, she has been in constant pain since her reconstruction from her bilateral mastectomy. The pain, she says, is worse than going through the chemo and post-surgery healing. Now she is faced with yet another surgery in the hopes of replacing her silicone implants with tissue from her own body to ‘build’ up her chest, so that she can at least wear clothing without having holes where her breasts once were. She is frightened because she is the sole breadwinner for her little family – husband (severe back problems and crippling anxiety), an almost four year old son, and an almost 2 year old daughter – the “Miracle Baby”.
I don’t know what to do as my husband and I are not able to help much financially – still have my own BC bills to pay.
Erika is facing her 5th surgery on October 28 and all of their funds have been depleted and they are facing huge bills from the past 2 years.
She has a blog with a link for donations but I don’t think she’s getting any traction. If you would kindly direct anyone, who may want to donate to the cause of breast cancer directly to a victim, to her blog it would be much appreciated.
Maybe some kind folks will step up and donate to her instead of Komen!

Thank you for taking the time to consider a mother’s plea for her daughter. God bless!
Here’s a story on Erika from when she gave birth:
If you can, please click through to her blog and drop some shekels in her fund. It’ll look good on your resume when the Judge of the Universe gets to that “How did you treat the least of these?” part of the questionaire on That Day.
