Rome and the Atheist have gained:These two shall fight it out—these two;Protestantism being retainedFor base of operations slyby Atheism. I think of that as I read the account of Matthew Parris (whose remarkable irrationalism I discussed here) goes to bat against the Catholic team as a “Protestant atheist” at a recent debate in England. I had the great honor of toodling Piers Paul Read around Seattle a little while back. Wonderful man. I’m happy to see him out there battling... Read more

…but why on earth somebody who hosts a pleasant variety show needs to be a keynote speaker at a National Catholic Education Conference is utterly beyond me. I’d much rather hear from the priest at Our Lady of Perpetual Responsibility than from Keillor. When I want Catholic education I like to get it from educated Catholics, not old blue dog Democrats who neither understand nor care about the Church’s teaching. This is just conference organizers latching on to somebody famous... Read more

A reader writes: I wrote a few weeks ago asking for prayers about an ex-husband who has legally harassed me for years. I have had colon cancer and have lost my sister to cancer during the whole mess. In the spirit of the world which we all know is affected by original sin, the judge ruled almost totally in favor of my ex-husband, who I am certain, was able to hide assets. All that said, I want to thank you... Read more

Quite a substantial cohort of women went to challenge the bushwah of some apologist for sluttery at South Dakota State University. Turns out they were in the majority in the audience! However, they didn’t know that going in, so props to them for their courage! Lots of good stuff happening on college campuses with serious Catholics putting legs on their faith. Well done! And good for this priest-blogger being a good shepherd to them! Read more

and blogger Robert de Neufville are having an interesting conversation on how violence is the opposite of real power. Certainly, the conquest of imperial Rome by the gospel would suggest that there is something to that. Read more

DMC Pharmacy, the only pro-life pharmacy in the area, is planning to close down on Thursday. This Thursday. It would be a real shame, but they don’t have enough customers or financial support. I want it to stay open because I have to go to a pharmacy every 30 days, and I know morally acceptable medicine is dispensed there. There are currently 1,000 customers. They need 5,000. And ‘a couple of hundred thousand dollars,’ as the discouraged pharmacist told me... Read more

Now he’s the Raving Theist, a serious Christian, and the subject of a nifty interview. Kudos to our dear pal, Dawn Eden, for being the particular vessel of grace in RA’s life! Don’t forget to check out BeyondMorningSickness.com, the Web site of a pro-life apostolate that helps pregnant women suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum and a matter near and dear to RT’s heart. Also, you might want to check out this and this book. Read more

A reader writes: My friend and co-worker abruptly quit her job this morning, due to an escalating and grim situation involving her teenage daughter. This family could use a boatload of prayers, as they are of no religious bent. The daughter has been spiraling for some time, and my co-worker has worked part-time for the past couple of years so that she could be available to her after school and during the summer. They are financially okay as her husband... Read more
