A reader writes: What Nobel Prize is The Cuteness up for? She hasn’t done anything yet either, but now we’re awarding Nobel Prizes for hope and promise, doesn’t she qualify? Her Cutefulness congratulates the current Nobel Peace Prize winner for whatever it is he’s going to do one of these days to deserve it. She is gracious, knowing even though she’s cuter and has done even less, someday the Committee will see this and give her her just reward. Read more

Just quickly popping in to say “Howdy!” before I go to Mass and we start the retreat. Got in Wednesday, spoke at the Theology on Tap at the Snow Goose restaurant downtown, met the delightful Kinneys and there very talkative son James (if you define “talk” as “laddleladdleladdleladdle”) and had a lovely dinner with them (not in that order). Also met Erin, who turns out to be an old friend of John C. Wright, so there’s glory for you! Chris... Read more

I think I should offer a brief apology for my snippy response to the reader who wanted my thoughts on the Shroud of Turin. I get a lot of trolling email from people and I too easily assumed his was more of same. Upon reflection, I don’t think I should have and have amended the post to remove the snippiness toward him. Okay, now I can go to AK with a clear conscience. Excelsior! Read more

A reader writes: I’d sent you a request to pray for some missionary friends in Indonesia for their safety in the wake of the recent earthquakes. Thankfully they have gotten in touch with friends and family back home and are ok. As it turns out they were in Thailand the week that the earthquake and aftershocks hit. But they did request for all of our continued prayers for those who were affected, both the families of those who have died... Read more

Catholics have faith in Jesus Christ. Skeptics claim to honor only “reason and evidence” while in fact having faith in materialism and the thesis that everything is explicable in terms of time, space, matter and energy whirling through their mindless pace. They are actively hostile to the possibility of agencies outside the material universe doing things to interfere here and will accept anything as fact (being constrained by their creed to do so) rather than consider the possibility that something... Read more

circuit court judges and Chilton County pastors and day care operators could marry! Meanwhile, on the homefront, looks like Cardinal Egan is about to be numbered among the many bishops who seem incapable of learning the bleedin’ obvious once the records he labored to keep sealed are unsealed. Love that whole “transparency” thing, Eminence. As with sincerity, if you can fake that, you’ve got it made. Read more
