Located in Washington, D.C., Catholic University’s Archives is one of the most dynamic and pro-active organizations of its kind working in the field of Catholic history. They have recently discovered a photo album compiled of all the bishops who attended the First Vatican Council (1869-1870). A press release from the university reads:
A finding aid for more than 700 photographs from the First Vatican Council has been posted. The collection contains photos of Vatican Council I, held at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome between December 1869 and September 1870. A digital version of the photos can be found by clicking here. The photos were donated to CUA by St. Paul’s College (Lawrenceville, Va.) in January 2005.
