Today marks the death of Venerable Gioacchino La Lomia, and the following is taken from Wikipedia:

Padre Gioacchino La Lomia was a Capuchin missionary and preacher. Born Gaetano La Lomia in Sicily to a wealthy family, he entered the entered the monastery in 1852 and was ordained in1855. He served as a missionary in the Amazonian Forest of Brazil for twelve years. He returned to Italy in 1880. He was famous for performing many miracles.
