Seminary Opens in Troy, N.Y., 1864 October 24, 2009

On this day in 1864, St. Joseph’s Seminary opened in Troy, New York, as a regional seminary for the ecclesiastical province of New York. It was in operation until 1896, when St. Joseph’s Seminary opened in Dunwoodie as the seminary for the Archdiocese of New York. During its 32 years of existence, it graduated over 700 priests.
