Blessed Matilde del Sagrado Corazón Téllez Robles (1841-1902)

Blessed Matilde del Sagrado Corazón Téllez Robles was a Spanish Roman Catholic nun and the foundress of the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary, Mother of the Church. Matilde Telléz Robles was born on 30 May, 1841 in Robledillo de la Vera, Spain, the second of four children to Félix Telléz Gomez and Basilea Robles Ruiz. They moved to Béjar in 1851. As an adult, Matilde founded a religious institute dedicated to the Eucharistic adoration and caring for the sick and needy. Matilde opened a school in the Province of Badajoz after being offered a house there. On 19 March 1884, Bishop Pedro Casas y Souto of Plasencia raised the Institute to a Religious Congregation of Diocesan Rite. In 1889, a new foundations was opened in Cáceres. Other foundations were later opened in Trujillo, Almendralejo, Los Santos de Maimona, Villaverde de Burguilios and in Béjar. On 17 December 1902, Mother Matilde died after suffering from a stroke two days earlier.
