On this day in 1982, Pope John Paul II established the Apostolic Exarchate for Romanian Byzantine Catholics. In 1987, the Apostolic Exarchate was elevated to the Rank of an Eparchy (Diocese) centered in Canton, Ohio. The Jurisdiction of the Romanian Catholic Diocese of Canton extends territorially to all of the United States.
