I would like to offer a word of apology and an explanation for my silence these past few months. On January 19, my daughter Theresa was hit by a car and broke her leg. Although she has recovered rapidly and is healing strongly, I have been acting as her unofficial factotum-nurse-caretaker for the last few months. If any of you have been in a similar situation, you know that it is rough work! Please keep Theresa and my wife Virginia in your prayers during this period of recovery.
Nevertheless, my hands have not been idle. I present for your perusal, a draft of the cover of my new book from Orbis Press: New York Catholics: Faith, Attitude & The Works. It is scheduled to be released on October 10, 2014. The book is a hybrid of history and journalism. In the first part, titled “Historical Voices,” I cover some 42 figures from the past, ranging from St. Elizabeth Seton to Fr. Mychal Judge, O.F.M. It consists of short essays on various people associated with the New York Catholic experience. In the second part, I interview some 34 people involved in ministry today, including Father James Martin, S.J., and Deacon Greg Kandra, author of Patheos’ “The Deacon’s Bench.” Charles Morris, author of American Catholic (1997), has endorsed the book, as has Father Dan Horan, O.F.M., author and blogger.
All in all, I think it’s a book that you’ll enjoy! I hope you do! More details forthcoming as they arise!
Sincerely,
Pat McNamara
